this was an idea that poecilotheria_27 suggested for a forum thread.
this is an open thread for artists who use this forum to post there works of any type for the porpuses of reciveing critique from other artists. anyone can post and any one can give critique.
a few rules to abid by....
1. all criticism MUST BE CONSTRUCTIVE.
2. respect others work, and they will respect yours.
3. use hyperlink insted of putting images directly into the thread _________________

Don't worry about trying to post pictures directly into the thread... too many images will slow the loading time of pages to a crawl... hypertext links work better for this sort of thing...
First picture is fun, I agree with one of the other commentors on the page, it's very "Tron"-like. To add more depth, you can try to add a bit of highlights to the robot's chasis, sort of like light glinting off the edges as the sun rises behind it, while keeping the majority of the object in silhouette. You already have an example of what I mean in the penumbra (the lit up space) of that large moon or whatever it is in the background.
I really like the second one, very trippy, I should get my hands on the program you mention in the comments. _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! A Bon Bon Tale)

I love to give critique on people's writing and drawing, but when they want it, of course. ^^! but I'm really bad giving critique because I have problems saying what I wan to say, but my words sometimes end with me saying something mean to the writer or the artist, so I hope you bear with me, Mr. Marx. ^^!
The first picture: I like the starry sky, very nice. I also the like the robot's scythe. Very cool. The moon (I think) and the illuminating light was the objects that caught my attention. Is really good. :3
The second picture: When I saw the second picture, the first thought that came to my mind was that I am looking at an unknown far away galaxy. Is that good.
Above all, you did a good job, Mr. Marx. |

thank you for your kind words my dear, it means a lot and dont worry about sounding overly criticall, i cant speak for other members who post art on this thread, but any one who thinks that someone as kind as you are could be anything but kind, is themeselves a fool.
your right about the moon, and the lower picture is actually a picture of a nebulea(cloud of space dust, for you earthilngs) i should of made the starfield bigger, so it would be more obvious. well better luck next time
hmm.... "Mr." Marx. i like it, but it does make me feel alittle old though....
please, call me marx, "Mr." Marx is my father (yea, i know, lame)
(on a side note, your new avatar keeps distracting me, gotta' become a member so i can see the full thing in the four aces suite) _________________

No fear my dear Ms. Lidia, I don't mind the suffix at all myself, just don't call me Mr. Maxtor, like Marx said before - thats my dad.
Anyways I thought I'd give drawing another shot. I'm not all that great at it but it's better than the last attempts. By the way, I don't have any of that picture manipulation (editing) software or anything like that, and I'm on a tight budget this month. Is there any good inexpensive programs out there?
That being said here is the link:

This looks good, is it done? You have the proportions looking realistic, was this drawn freehand or on the pc? |

I drew it freehand, and then traced it onto some vellum and scanned it, I haven't cleaned or colored it yet. _________________ Niam's Fursona

i apologize lidia, i wasnt trying to offend. i was mearly joking around.
i cant speak for niam, but i am honored that you wish to treat me with such a high level of respect, so long as you allow me to call you "Miss" lidia, then you may call me as you see fit^^
niam, the image is lookin' good, if you want photomanipulation software download this prog called "GIMP". as good as photoshop, but the best part? its free AND its legit^^
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
peo, your first image wont show on the site you use for some odd reason, but the other two sketches look amazing, you are a great traditional artist. like niam, i wish i could draw like that. _________________

work in progress image
http://marx-paragon.deviantart.com/art/WIP-feylin-city-121021453
an image that im working on and would like some feedback on, im not gonna use the sketch as the final product, but i am gonna color it using GIMP, the sketch just provides a basic layout.
the figure walking towards the cliff at the lower right, is a member of a cat-like race(those horn things on his head are supposed to be cat-ears) im gonna redo him and his cloak soon, and im also planing on expanding the area around the pyramid to include a city..... also do those dunes look right to you guys, im not sure.
btw im sorry about the poor image quality, my scanner isnt great. once i finishe the sketch the colored image will look much better and more like my other work. _________________

same image but i have come alot further on it i have a question though, do you guys think i should keep those buildings near the pyramid, if so i am gonna add more of them, but i think the perspective's off.
please let me know what you think, im close to getting this image colored. _________________

Here is the one I'm currently working on. This is my son Heath, he's 5 months old. This is his first time in a swing
This is still in a very rough stage, I've laid out an outline and shaded the basic base tones of the skin. This is on 23" x 31" Arches 300lb hot pressed watercolor paper. I'll have another day working on the skin shading and details of the face and hands, I might do the hat before I complete the skin so I have a direct comparison to what I'm competing against.

Very nice, are you keeping it as a pencil drawing, or will you be painting it later? I only ask because you mention it's on Watercolor paper... Myself, I much prefer doing black & white in either pencil or ink (just did a pencil drawing of one of my nieces a couple years back as a Christmas present... wish I had a scan of it to show off right now) _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! Thanks for the comments. My shoulder is sore as can be from drawing too much.
I don't consider any of this done yet, once I get it all to this stage, I'll layer the entire thing with the hard H pencils.
