Just a fun thread I thought I'd try out, just take the time and answer doesn't take much. Just post how much do you think a typical American waiter or waitress's pay is every hour (Not included tips). Like they get paid $6.50 an hour or such. Oh and what percentage you should tip after every meal. Just make it look like this
(Example)
Paid by the hour: $6.00
Tip: 12% of the food bill
Note: Put down what you think, when you go to a resturaunt and have a perfect meal and waiter/waitress, not the, "My food is cold, and service was sucking," type. I'll tell you all the truth once enough posts have been made. So just check back often okay. CHOW or Ciao _________________ Make Peace or War$, whatever you prefer. LOL |

My sister was a waitress a couple years ago, and she said she made waaaay less than minimum wage, and I got the same answer from the waitresses at the bar I worked at. The reason was that tips were somehow supposed to off-set the pay difference between those of us earning minimum wage and the waitresses. Anyway, I can still only really guess as to what they make per hour.
Paid by the hour: ~$4.00
Tip: 20% (15%)*
*20% is my minimum tip percentage, which I always give to wait staff, bartenders, and pizza delivery guys. I've always been told 15% is supposed to be average, but I never tip 15 unless I recieve really shoddy service. _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! A Bon Bon Tale)

Since I work as a waiter I can tell you what usually a waiter earns.
First of all, forget about tips, italian people are quite the bastards and almost never leave em - but in very rare occasions.
Each time a waiter is called to work over here gets 55€ per service. That's a rough 80$ and it's around 13$/hour, considering we usually work for 6 hours more or less. But it's quite the tiring work as we usually serve loads of hungry customers that always are in a rush, so it's like a 6 hour nonstop marathon back and forth from the kitchen. _________________ ♥ To be forgotten is worse than death ♠ |

I work at a restaurant in the U.S. and have worked at several others during my career, i am 20 and in my experience servers only ever made a little over a dollar an hour but got tips, and minimum wage is supposed to get offset due to tips which is how they get away with paying like that, and sometimes it does, on a decent night in a good family restaurant you might go home with over $100 if you were any good and had decent tables. |

So far everyone is right....Sadly though I live in a town composed primarily of idiots, cheats, scoundrels, and Old people (Mainly the ones who remember the Civil War LOL) anyway...It's not unusual for me to have 20 tables in 4 hours, and some being parties of 8 or more, but I'll leave with like $50+ dollars, and not because I am a sucky server. For example I worked this Saturday mornng, the deades time of the week, for most people in "regular" towns, not place that are famous or overly big, and made $100, I don't know what else to do...I tell jokes, get them glasses of ice for their teas, before they even ask me to (Our tea melts the ice quick) and get everything their greedy hearts desire. for me...it's just ignorance, that the Elderly don't keep up with the time, and still believe a quater is still a good tip for a party of 5 off the wall. I guess they just want me to call them Masta...and clean their shoes like a slave or something _________________ Make Peace or War$, whatever you prefer. LOL |

Ouch.....I'd be careful throwing the "Black" people statement in there. You never know who will read this. I just basically made this thread to help many of the visitors of this forum know that tipping their server 18% of their meal is the RIGHT thing to do, and not the usual "Oh here's 10%" attitude. My philosphy is that if you can't afford to tip your waiter or waitress 18% or more when you eat out, the DON'T GO. Eat out at fast food joint, where the workers there make $5.75 to $6.75 an hour instead of us who DEPEND on giving you Great service and rely on tips. It's just the right thing to do. _________________ Make Peace or War$, whatever you prefer. LOL |

*Nods my head* "It's cool, I just wanted to clarify so that the non-members of the forum don't get pissed off, and do something rash to get this site, or you in trouble. *puts out a hand* "Still friends?" _________________ Make Peace or War$, whatever you prefer. LOL |
