That was a wicked movie.

Speaking of movies, that reminds me. Most movies that are based on books bug me when I've read the book first, because they're not true to the book. With some, I actually preferred reading the book to watching the movie.

I know what you mean. I've gotta say it this way, I don't care how steriotypical it is, but in my opinion, a perfect example of that is the Harry Potter series. I felt there was very minimal refference and base from the real thing. It was dissapointing in a way.

I think that I would usually agree, though the most obvious example of how different my opinion on a book and a movie is, is actually in favor of the movie. I much prefer the movei version of starship Troopers over the book. Laughing
I know that the book is considered a classic, and many think that the movie is lame and cheesy. But I watched the movie first and thought it was great, and I've watched it many times since and still love it. The book, on the other hand, I just found plain awful. It was boring and I didn't care for any of the characters. Confused

Now I'm trying to think of books I like more than their movie versions.

Do you mean Eragon, Drofgod? That's one of the ones I meant. I enjoyed the movie, but it was spoiled by having read the book first. I kept thinking to myself, "THAT'S NOT HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN". Evil or Very Mad

The Golden Compass is one that I am waiting to see, because I want to have forgotten the details of the book before watching it; especially after hearing from others that it's so not true to the book.

This is exactly why I don't read books until after I watch the movies based on them. That's how I was able to enjoy both Jurassic Park the movie and the novel. While I still think the novel is a better story, having seen the movie first without any bias, it automatically made the whole experience better. To this day, I've only read two Harry Potter books, well after having watched the movies based on them. I'll probably only finish the series once the last movie is made.

Unfortunately, most movies based on well-known comic books tend to fall into the category of "source material is better", only because I was an avid reader of comics when I was a teenager... I'm already finding myself hyper-critical of the Watchmen movie as is, so I sort of feel like telling anyone who hasn't read the graphic novel to wait until after they've seen the movie, just in case the movie actually turns out to be decent. I wouldn't want to ruin someone else's fun...

Currently reading the RCN series by David Drake. Naval science fiction, and very well done.

I just finished reading Echoes of the Great Song, a production of the great mind of David Gemmell. I think I may have talked about his books here before. Smile
I've just started By Royal Command, the latest instalment of Charlie Higson's Young Bond (James Bond) series.

I'm reading Lucifer's Hammer. It's a post-apocalyptic book about a comet hitting the earth. It's pretty good, though also a little long, but I do love such stories.
