((...okay, I am sooooo not the audience for this show. I've given it several episodes to try to win me over, and I've looked it up online too.
And... it just isn't my cup of tea. Worse, when is it on? Saturday. The one day I actually try to watch Adult Swim. Figures. )) |

((...and for that matter, when did Adult Swim totally change up Saturday? Saturday used to be the super cool fun day to watch Adult Swim.
Now... after Family Guy, I have to wait till TWO in the morning to watch something that I enjoy. I'd probably enjoy FCLC too... but I hate starting shows in the middle of the series. I mean, what ever happend to InuYasha, ATHF, or Robot Chicken? Shoot, I'd even put up with some "Big O".
Ugh. ))

((Hey Cheesecaked,
I bought Outlaw Star when it was about $30/dvd, and there were a total of three DVDs. Outlaw Star, to me, is one of those shows I'm mixed about. I like Melfina, so... I put up with a lot more than I normally do. It's also one of the few shows I'll listen to the dub with.
My anime collection is pretty nice, for being an individual collection. I'm not of "otaku" quality *serious eye roll*, but I have several gems in my collection. For example, I actually own an AD Vision liscenced DVD of "Battle Angel". And, I'm hell-of-a-proud that I don't have a single fansub or illegal copy in my collection.
Anyway, I know Adult Swim probably gains/loses the ability to air different shows. Hence why I doubt they'll ever be able to show Tenchi again on Adult Swim. I'm more just venting about the fact that the one day where I make an effort to watch Adult Swim, has the least amount of shows that I'm interested in. )) |

I have my own libary of anime here in my room because the adult swim no longer provided the anime they did that made it popular in the first place. I thought futurama and family guy was a good warmup at first. Aqua team was ok, a little on the wierd side, ok, metalocaplypse was decent. But the moment they started showing that real life crap, I began to be turned off by it.
The Might Boosh, Eagleheart, Children's Hospital, Saul of the Molemen. All those shows are just terrible. Bearable, but not something I'd stick around to see. Don't get me started on that Awesome Show Great Job. Its not even funny random humor. I can't even tell if the hosts on that show are homosexuals, not that I have a problem with that, but they practically shove it in your face with that kind of humor. I like painful humor, not gross humor. _________________

((Hey Rune174,
Overall, I have to agree with you. Pretty much all of the live-action stuff that Cartoon Network/Adult Swim has tried hasn't worked for me either. I know it is suppossed to be sketch comedy, but... it just hasn't clicked for me. I do like Eaglehart a bit... mostly because of Chris Elliot. I have watched a couple of "The Regular Show" and "Gumball" and "Adventure Time"... and those are hit-or-miss with me. Not my cup of tea either, yet, not completely without their own, individual, charm. I do like the new, weird, trippy, owl-bumpers Adult Swim uses though.
I also have a private library of anime; however, I'm currently away from my home right now, and, as such, don't have access to a lot of it. I did pick up Gurren Lagann and Jiburiru/Jiburiru, Sex Warrior Pudding, D1SC0DE, and Enspelled to check them out. D1SC0DE is definately on the alternative side of bishoujo, but... weirdly enthralling too. It's a very fringe take on bishoujo, and it pulls it off very well. Right now Gurren Lagann seems very... bipolar. One moment its all depressive and heavy-drama... and the next it's etich-slapstick comedy. So... I'm not sure what I'll think of that.
Anyway, I'm sure Adult Swim tries hard. They can't please everyone. And they did get into some serious trouble for playing Tenchi Muyo (even with the built in alterations they did). And they do offer Bleach, FMA, FCLC, Cowboy Bebop, InuYasha, and other anime stuff too on Saturday. And next week they start Durararan, or something like that. Overall, my problem with many of those shows is I detest picking up shows in the middle, where I have zero idea what is going on.
Anyway, just more of my quick thoughts. )) |

I don't think Adult Swim is trying that hard anymore. It went from the popular no-nonsense anime without the censorship involved, to a terrible unethical poise for mediocre humor. _________________

((Rune... Adult Swim has always had censorship or editing for content. They have tried to minimize it, but it was always there. The most famous of it being the whole "bikinis at the bath house" scene with Ayeka and Ryoko. And, almost as equally missing was the whole "Let's shake the dew off that lily" comment Washu makes. And lets not forget the whole prostitute scene from Trigun.
With the American audience becoming a bit more... comfortable with some of these topics / innuendoes, Adult Swim has had to do it less frequently. I do think, though, due to the initial burning they suffered, it has made them less likely to take on certain titles, and why a lot of their current titles have focused on sword fighting, mystical, ninjas and stuff.
And, Adult Swim / Cartoon Network does have to adjust for its audience. Even you and I have changed over the years. So... for Adult Swim to stay stagnant would be worse, then if they offer up shows which aren't 100% popular. Again, I'm not saying they've been 100% successful at it... but I think they're doing a better job than you might be giving them credit for.
And, going back to the intent of my original post, I wasn't saying Adult Swim / Cartoon Network is dead, and that we should all go around saying "Long Live the King!". It was that I didn't care for the current line-up of Saturday. Though, again, Adult Swim changes its line-up organization all the time. And... much to my chagrin, Boondocks is one of their more successful shows. So, I can't really blame them for having it play twice on Saturday.
Anyway, Cest La Vie.)) |
