Although this all sounds interesting and is a good idea, I am not much of a reader. I just got by at high school, I think I had to read 50 books (Dutch, German and English). Because it was a "must do", I lost the joy of reading books.
Sorry, not much of a help on this topic I'm afraid _________________ To die for... |

Hmmm last book I read was a biography about Antonio Vivaldi. He rocks!
I read short stories most of the time since I mainly read while waiting on a plane or something or when being stuck in a hotel for a night.
My most favourite writers are Dutch though. Kees van Kooten and Maarten van Rossum are quite entertaining.
The last English one I carried around was called the best of Roald Dahl.
Although I think Revolting Rhymes is the best of Roald Dahl. Fairy tales retold in verse, but much more entertaining than the originals.
Do we grade the books with Martina bookworms? _________________ Don't Panic! |

hey martina
the book i am reading now is called Crossing The Rubicon. it is an alarming insight into the real going ons inside a superpower government.
it covers a number of subjects but specifically sets up a case around who(and why) was responsible for 9/11.
i highly recommend it to anybody who is interested.it will not be everyones cup of tea but sometimes truth is confronting...
ok onto the dirty weekend...on 2nd thoughts..like yourself...i will keep that to myself
i'm sure the guys would rather hear about yours lol |

I don't read that much now but I used to read vey much.
Many of them were kinda nonfiction.
A book which plays in Chicago .. about a family looking for a better life in America:
Upton Sinclair - The Jungle
I was deeply impressed by this book as it describes so well how a family (in the end as they start well ) has trouble to make it.
Another book that readers of this forum might know:
Rober Hughes - The fatal shore
This book was quite popular in Holland. It was published when it was 200 years ago that the first British settled in Australia, a very nice book !
Wonder if people living in Australia consider it a good book too as I have never been in Australia.
I agree with someoneouthere that being forced to read can take the fun away. |
