Ok, I'm gonna put myself on the line here.
If anyone has any technical problems with their PC, and in particular problems which might mean you can't sign up for membership to www.clubjanacova.com or are having any problems with Jana's live chat, I'll try and help you out.
Of course if anyone else has the solutions, feel free to respond. I know I'm not the only techie person here...
We can all help each other, we shouldn't expect Ron and The Fatman to come to the rescue all the time. they're busy guys, and I want them to get www.eroticwarriors.com finished |

Ok, sorry, I didn't read the whole thread before I asked the question (I do that a lot, I only read the most recent stuff) ...
So being skint is the same as being broke? Ok, I get it. But to say I am broke is so much easier than saying I am skint (and it sounds better too - Skint sounds like a disease - LOL).

| roxstar, here's my pc problem. it's old , secondhand , slow , limited in capacity, the operating system ,xp, refuses to accept my webcam program disks , mechwarrior piratemoon. or a burned copy of a recording program. well it accepted it but the next morning i found that the entire operating system was gone and every thing with it. i'm afraid to try to install my scanner printer incase the thing freaks out again and billgates vaporizes my system. i'm saving up for a mac. |

Well for starters XP on an old PC is a bad move.
If its got any less than about 256mb RAM its gonna struggle.
Sounds like you might have either dodgy RAM or a dodgy or misconfigured harddrive if you managed to lose your OS like that.
But thats just my first impressions.
Sure you want a MAC? |

| i think you nailed it roxstar. ive only got 128 megs of ram (it almost sounds like i know what i'm talking about) the thing is , all my friends in the music business say mac is the only way to go if your going to do any serious recording .one buddy ive got does a lot of tv and movie scores, his system is just amazing . it has two central processing units. the faders(the sound control devices ) move all by themselves. its wild. i don't need the kind of control he's got. a system that can divide a single drum beat into more than one thousand parts . looking at it another way , my little system is lame compared to whats out there now but its allowed me to get on line and learn alot . i'm ok for now but i want to know how to use both systems. |

yep well, I guess mac is best generally for sound engineering, but I do some recording on PC using cubase VST. Its fine for what I need. I have some friends who also use PC for recording much more pro stuff than I do. So the differences are not so huge anymore.
If you're getting in major stuff like protools you're almost definitely better off with a mac.
One of the most important things I'm finding is that harddrive performance should be top notch. Its not worth cutting corners there. |
