yeah that part i want to see less... modern directors will focus only on that making it far more gory than necessary and while i like gore just as much as most too much is too much. |

Unfortunately I also feel that would be so. Subtlety is not a factor in today's film making. Also with the trend to take any Asian film and transfer the story setting to an American location, it would not be Tokyo 3
rather New York or Washington. Which I feel would detract from the premise of the story. _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198

As far as I know, the live-action Eva movie is stuck in "Development Hell" for the time being. A few years back, WETA (the guys who did the special effects for the Lord of the Rings trilogy) released some concept artwork for the EVA units, though a lot of the feedback was a bit mixxed. After folks found out that they were planning on completely Americanizing the Evangelion cast (such as renaming the characters into more Anglo-sounding names), there was a near revolt by the fans. No more news has come up about it in a couple years...

There was a small article about negotiations with the series creators Gainax to produce the live action version in the anime magazine Newtype USA. But as with all these projects creative differences seems to have put the project on permanent hiatus.
There has been a further anime film released in Japan, called Evangelion 0.1: You are not alone . However the reveiw I read stated that it was only the first four episodes of the series pieced together with a few new CGI sequences put in. The fact that the DVD release has been withdrawn just shows that it was thought fans were not going to pay for the same film again. As this is the first of four 'new' evangelion anime films, I can only assume that the others will be the same. A great dissapointment. _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198

I watched the show, but could never quite get into the show. It's great overall. The animation and voice acting is solid. And the story is well done, but I just could not get into it.
I would probably have to watch the show multiple times to fully understand everything. |

I've always said that Evangelion is one of those shows that either make or break an anime fan... it's so heavy with metaphor and drama and angst that, it's almost an ordeal to watch the entire show (plus one or both of the movies), and in my opinion it's almost a right-of-passage for die-hard otaku to sit through all of it... _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! That was my reaction to the ending as well...
Followed by "This is fucking bullshit!" There I was, ready to accept the end of the world and it ends up being just a bad dream? Yeah, never had such an ending upset me. _________________ "If it ain't broke, just wait awhile. Because it will be. |

It was not a bad dream, rather that Shinji, the main character was given the opportunity to recreate the world as he wished. But this turn out to be a false start and the true 'Salvatation' of mankind was shown in the two Evangelion films; "Death and Rebirth" and "The end of evangelion". The latter having a great soundtrack as well. _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198

If I remembered correctly, when the movies came out the last episode or two of the series was retconned saying that it all took place in Shinji's mind during the movie. |

Indeed I was listening to the audio commentary on the last film and apparently the fans of the series were so pissed at the ending in the TV series that actual death threats were sent to the writer. It would seen that the writer then deliberately made the next ending even more ambiguous just to piss them off even more. _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198

I can refer you to my earlier posting on this thread, which contains the web site of the producers of the live action film and a "MOCK" trailer for the film. if you have any further questions please feel free to ask _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198

[Spoilers ahoy!... maybe...]
Another story I heard about Evangelion's original ending is that they had used up just about all of their animation budget before they even started animating the last two episodes, and that the director had a nervous breakdown and the end result was the confusing, yet optimistic, ending from the TV show.
Personally, I think it sort of seemed like the bleakness and finality (or lethality, as it were) of the End of Evangelion movie was Hideaki Anno's way of giving the middle finger to all those fans who cried "foul" after the hyper-confusing TV ending. It seemed almost blatant, like he was saying "You wanted an ending? Fine! Here's your g*dd*mn ending!" _________________ Johnny's Fanfics (including Sureshot! A Bon Bon Tale)

In fact some of the death threats were showing briefly in the film as was the graffiti on the Gainax building. |
