AFTER READING THIS TWICE IM HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT IT...
This Might Have Enough Power To Screw Up The Universe... But im sleepy tonight so idk what im talking about but it sounds like it CAN possibally **** things up really bad if it over does things.

Yes. It is a big milestone for planet Earth.
Who knows.... We might experience first contact. Some aliens might show up and say. You guys are doing this wrong ("you're ruining the matter stream!!!") and shut it down. LOL.
Reminds me of the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster, when they built that mysterious machine. People got worked up and it was sabotaged.

BTW: AWESOME movie. I haven't seen that in forever! Now I'm gonna have to go find it and watch it.

Most folks I think just get jumpy when you say that your experiment has something to do with testing the "Big Bang Theory"... they're just gonna ram some particles into eachother at the speed of light, and maybe something freaky might happen, or maybe not. I highly doubt this will spell doom for the planet (or the universe, for that matter)....
[Edit]Just read the wikipedia entry, they're sending the first beam through the LHC, but they won't do the first collisions until October... we're safe for another month *chuckle*

Hmm I don't think that the particle collision will result in a black hole. The mass is way too small. Maybe they'll get a massive energy output if the particles destroy each other (or they'll just bump like two very fast billard balls XD )

For future reference, GMT-5=EST, which is what Ronald gave the time in. I don't know how you didn't know that already..
By the way, recreating the Big Bang is impossible. Just thought I'd throw that in there. 
Plus, I don't see how they could create a black hole, whatever they do. A black hole is a collapsed star; unlikely that they can copy those conditions.

well lets see where this thing will take us... for better or for death...
everyone at my collage hurd about it on the news and everyone had a guess of what it could do...
black hole, explodes, nothing, creates a really big rip in the space time continum thus ending the world or making it co existant with another universe that we cant exist with or there will be no matter in life and fantasies for everyone... i like the last one because we had a chance of going into a fantasy world ^^ that would actually be sorta sweet if you think about it lol ^^

I love how much folks like to throw in speculative science-fiction into this sort of thing, especially when none of the experiments have anything to do with time-travel, teleportation, or anything like that... Best case scenario, we might finally find out what the hell "dark matter" is...

You know, saying it that way, it kinda makes me wonder if thing would turn out like DOOM. Using a particle materializer to create hell on earth, (or in DOOMs case, Mars.)
