So this is the most interesting thing I've read today! Remind me not to get a boob job.

Cheerleader, star student dies in breast implant surgery

At 18, Stephanie Kuleba had everything: She was head cheerleader, had a near-perfect grade-point average and was planning to be a pre-med student in college.

The only thing the stunningly beautiful high school senior thought she was missing?

Perfect breasts.

So the Florida teen decided to have cosmetic surgery - a decision that cost her her life.

Kuleba suffered a rare fatal reaction to the anesthesia at an outpatient facility and was rushed to an area hospital.

But it was too late - and now her classmates at West Boca High School in Palm Beach are mourning her loss.

Kuleba's friends held a candlelight vigil the other night and hung her shiny silver cheerleader pompons and T-shirt on the school fence.

The "senior" parking spot where she would pull up in her white Lexus was shrouded with flowers, teddy bears and photos.

"It's hard to believe she's gone," said classmate Vanessa Villegas, 16. "She just made everybody's day by having a good attitude about life."

The teen was planning on attending the University of Florida in the fall and was hoping to become a doctor.

Even with the world at her feet, Kuleba was bothered by the fact that her breasts were not the same size and that one nipple was inverted.

"The surgery itself was very personal," said Benny Perlman, a family spokesman.

Her death has stirred the debate on whether it is appropriate for a girl so young to get cosmetic surgery. The popularity of TV shows like "Extreme Makeover" have fueled a rise in the number of teens going under the knife.

Not much you can really say to that, Everytime you go in for operation or surgery that never been done on you. You put you body at risk because you have not a clue on how it will react to it. She was just very unlucky in this she just happen to fall in lower percent.

Never been done? I would lean towards it being more like, anytime you go under the knife, from the moment they knock you out, to the moment you are fully recovered, there's a chance you won't make it.

I should show this to my girl. Hopefully she'll never consider getting a boob-job. o_O

The question is not to have surgery or not it is does the potential benefit outweigh the risk.

I would say the world is getting out of hand with the requirement of perfection. Imperfection is the only true perfection there can be. Anyone can do something perfect...anyone can strive to be perfect....but it is our imperfections that make us unique and perfect in our own ways.

Too much perfection will lead to a boring and drab life. Think about it, in a "perfect world", there probably wouldn't be some place as awesome as Vixine!

Depends on how you view perfect world. In a perfect world, Vixine should be more awesome then it is already! Smile

I would have to agree to that because your thoughts about perfect and mine are completely different. Reality is more or less how you precise it to be, you can always think of this way people looking at a car crash from different angel. They precise what they see.

I think there is no such thing as a "perfect world". Why? Well, in a perfect world there is something missing, the process of improvement. So it would be imperfect (spelling?) again Wink

How paradoxical. But perhaps simply a personal one. Many people regard a lack of need for improvement not to be in imperfection, but state of absolute.

Any ways, in regard to the article. They ended it with mentioning the debate that raises the question "how young is too young?" This teen died not due to the surgery, but to, as mentioned, a "rare fatal reaction to the anesthesia"

My first question would be: What do they mean by "young?" Young as in too immature...or young as in too physically young? Or maybe both?

Second: She died from a rare fatal reaction. Perhaps this young woman had an anomaly of her body that caused the shut down of her nervous system. (I'm guessing thats what happened since they say it was the anesthesia) Who's to say this wouldn't have happened for any such surgery. The article doesn't make mention of her not having any sort of problem with nerve numbing agents in the past, so it can only be assumed this was the first time she had ever been exposed to them. (I'm not trying to be negative here, just trying to point that that her age probably had nothing to do with her death.)

Third: How much of the anesthesia was used? The article doesn't say. Any one can have a fatal reaction to anesthesia if too much of a certain kind is used.

Any ways. I'm kind of over analyzing the last bit of the article. My prayers go to her friends and families.

This story just shows you to be happy with what god gave you.

And not to be a heartless SOB, but this was probably karma coming back to get her. We all know cheerleaders can be stuck-up A-holes.

Also, I have know many cheerleader who where down to earth and very nice one of them bake me cookies a lot when she live near me. There are good and there bad just because you belong to one type of group does not make you automatically that way.

I never met up with cheerleaders. I never ran with the popular crowd. I was the outcast of school, pretty much. Few friends, and many enemies. Teachers despised me...etc. That's how life is. It's unfair. Death is the only thing that is fair. Death doesn't choose sides, he commits to neither good nor evil. Death simply ends it for whomever it must, and that's the end of it.

Despite this, death can seem cold, cruel, and even unfair. The good die young. Be happy that you're alive, and be content with who you are. Your imperfections are what make you, you. WIthout them, you aren't different, you're exactly like everyone else. Personally, I don't want to be like everyone else, I want to be different, if by nothing more than just a slim margin, then so be it.

I can understand MidNights dispassion towards cheer leaders. Allot are some times stuck up. But it's better to count each person, no matter what clique they run with, as an individual and not ignorantly lump them in with a whole.
