First off, if you guys aren't aware, DC is going to be rebooting all their comics back to Issue #1 with new starting stories/origins.

Second, there will be new reboot costumes as well.

And already people are complaining about.

The biggest change will be Superman without his underwear. And Wonderwoman without her Bikini bottoms.

Don't know why DC thinks this is going to be a great idea. Costume changes fucked up WonderWoman from getting her TV Show.

Maybe this is there way of doing viral marketing to get some attention. But at the end of the day, it will only hurt their sales.

Its simple, it is am atempt to get new, younger fans into buying ther brand seens with all of the years dialog some poeple find it hard to grasp what the hell is going on so far. So they are hopeing that a reset and a costume style change would interest new young readers.

Becuase lets look at the fact that every fan dom needs new fans to replace fans that dont have that time, money, and/or interests eny more wether you are talking movies, anime, or even MMOs (why do you think a lot of older MMOs are offering free months with out haveing the buy the game these days.)

I only bought any DC comics for the Prototype issues. The characters in there aren't as renown to get a costume change so I'm not really worried. :/

They are messing with things they should leave well enough alone. My dad is an avid fan of the old comics, and when he hears of this, things are gonna happen.

Well, this ought to be interesting. If in the near future someone shows up with a reboot costume orcomes talking about the new comic versions, old fans will have a 'geek war' over it.

Like Evan said, this should be a ploy to get new fans. Or.....it could be a way to say 'We release this new crap, fans hate it, release the originals ones under a new name and banner called Vintage and we make millions!' kind of trick.

Messing around with classic comic characters can be ugly business.

Whats sad is sometimes the writers for these things have little power when the fans try to overturn them.

((Well... I'm going to take a different direction from this. I think you guys are all being the old "Well, back in my day" codgers, and not giving the story a chance to even try and woo you with a new idea.

If you think about it, comics have regularly reset themselves. If nothing else, to revitalize the story. Old-school bards used to retell stories all the time. Even famous story's collected in "Grimm's Fairy Tales" have numerous versions. Re-immagining stories, or reseting a universe is nothing that hasn't been tried before.

A number of comic resets have done very well. I can remember when Spiderman was starting to be drawn like Superman in the late 80s. I.e., huge, macho, and buff. J.M.S revamped Spiderman to be more wirey than buff, and rebooted his personality to be more... wise-cracking. And, in doing so, blew life back into the Spiderman chain. Todd MacFarlane also helped reboot a lot of dieing comic-book series. In fact, think about how many times Batman has already been rebooted.

First, he was brooding action-adventure Batman, fighting mobsters and stuff in Gotham. Then he was rebooted to being action-adventure Batman fighting Nazi's in WWII. He then morphed into the "campy" Batman during the Silver Age of comics. Then he was rebooted again in "Tales of the Dark Knight". Shoot, even in animated stories it went from Batman, to Batman and Superman, to Justice League, to Justice League Unlimited, to Batman Brave and the Bold.

Sometimes plotlines get so... far-far-far away from everything else, you just have to hit the "reset" button, and start back from square one. Anyone remember the whole "Crisis on Infinate Earth" plot arc. What was the result? Pretty much after all the crazy-zainyness of that plot arc, the reset button was hit. Because the writers realized they had scripted themselves into a corner. Seriously. How many times have the reset Superman, the X-men, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc., etc., etc. Resetting fictional universes isn't anything new.

It gives the author/writer a chance to bring new plot ideas into the story. It allows the expression of ideas that may have been previously not allowed. It allows for a new way to draw/immagine the characters. Shoot, to use an anime example, Bubblegum Crisis was reinvisioned as Bubblegum Crisis: 2040. It gives an artist a chance to redraw a character to show off their new and developed skills. It allows for new ways to visualize events. Think abouty it. Comics used to be three, square, panels... and that's how the story was told. Now, you can get two-page spreads of a single, high-importance, event. Doing things like this developed as writers, studios, and artists wanted to try something new with an existing character.

A lot of stories get reboots. Even famous stories like "Hansel and Gretel", "Macbeth", "Seven Samurai", and "The Ride of Ichibod Crane". You might not realize you're watching a classic story, just made into modern times. A lot of western movies are based off "Seven Samurai". Shoot, "Romeo and Juliet" was reimagined into "Gnomeo".

Will rebooting Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, The Flash, etc. work? *shrug* I dunno. However, until you actually see/read the work, you can't really say if it'll be good or bad. ))

Dang and shoot. I guess with all the stuff going on, I never thought about it that way. Well, one can only see when the whole will come full circle when the series is released.
