I'm thinking of getting knee surgery done. Recently, an old condition has started bothering me again and I'd really like to get it treated. I have an excess growth of bone on my right leg, just below the knee. When it first happened, I was told not to worry and that muscle tissue would grow over it and the pain would lessen. That was the case for around 10 years, but now it's hurting again and I'm pretty sure I can't expect any new growth of muscle tissue over top of it.

There are really 2 issues that make this more difficult, no health coverage and low funds. It is possible that my wife might be able to get some health coverage from her job, but I'm not sure how soon that would kick in, or how much of the expense it would cover.

Well, i could advise on checking with a anuther docter for a secent oppinion. As for your wifes insurance from her job, i would say to get the paper work (or at least a copy) so you can see if you are covered as well and what your limits are.

To be honest, I haven't seen a doctor about this since the original diagnosis. I've asked my dad to try and get some information about the condition from the doctor who diagnosed me. I'd do it, except I've moved several states away since then, so it's easier for him to get in touch with her. I'll leave the insurance situation to my wife, as she's very detail-oriented and I know she's looking out for me. When I know I'm covered and I have information about the condition to present, then I'll consult with a doctor about options. I'm probably going to lean towards surgery if I can, because I really want something that can get rid of the bone and has a higher likelihood of success. I know I'll probably have a recovery period with limited mobility for a week or two, but since my term's pretty much over, I wouldn't mind.

hey I trying to become an orthopedic surgeon, I'd be doing something like that, if college don't kill me first. I've seen some cool things like a full knee replacement, they got these molds that they pin to your femur and your tibia, well these molds have holes and shapes that guide the surgical saw, in the end the tissue removed creates a 90 degree angle between the upper leg and lower leg, then artificial parts are attached, pretty cool procedure and it takes about 30 minutes. I could do that, don't see what calculus has to do with it so why do i need to know that?

Oh, calculus isn't used in the surgery, just in the billing, lol.

I hope it all works out. I don't like surgery myself, but I would hate to express my feelings towards doctors at the moment.

Oh you won't hurt my feelings, There are some real dick doctors out their.
In my small hometown the health care is monoploized, and the people take it. I want to become a surgeon and open my private practice back home, offering alternative choice. I've been screwed over by the doctors before. I broke my foot in wrestling, went to immediate care (owned by the hospital) they x-rayed it told me it could be a fracture but it could also be a growth plate, they told me to get a second opinion, 400 dollars out of pocket their. So we went to the orthopedic practice (partnered with the hospital) They looked at the day old x-ray and told me its broke and to stay off it, another 400$ out of pocket, they didn't even x-ray it a second time so why did it cost as much as getting it x-rayed. I want to become a doctor and offer a fair and moral orthopedic practice.

Well, the recent news is that I could probably avoid surgery. Only downside is periodically wearing a knee brace and doing exercises to strengthen my quads. Exercise itself isn't much of a downside for me, but having almost no room in which to do exercise is.

Ouch, sounds painful. I hope you can get it and that it won't be as painful afterwards.
