A Moment with Chaos

Hello friends, your buddy Chaos here. Just thought I'd share a little of my unpleasant wisdom with you.

I found myself in a conversation once where a friend of mine mistook an asshole for a douchebag. But aren't they the same thing, you might ask? Nope, there's a distinctive difference, one of which I will share with you.

An asshole is someone who does not consider the feelings of others, is insensitive or inconsiderate in general. Stereotypical male pattern behavior. It's not always intentional, sometimes it's simply a lack of forethought.

Douchebags, on the other hand, go out of their way to belittle, insult and inconvenience others as a practice.

Here is an example...

At my job, I get pulled away from my counter to do some other shit, doesn't matter what. I'm away from it for awhile. When I return, a patient is standing there, annoyed. It's some old guy who starts to complain about service.

Asshole: I actively ignore his complaints and proceed with the transaction. I am neither mindful, nor considerate of his time that's been wasted. I make a few guttural noises at his questions, but little else.

Douchebag: After he finishes with his complaints, I say this: "That's stupid! You're old and probably gonna die soon anyway, loser!"

Both situations are not the best way to handle a social interaction, but there is a very distinct difference between them. I personally think that we all have the right to be assholes from time to time, just because of the constant stress and pressures of our hectic society.

Being a douchebag, however, I don't condone because it's simply taking a bad situation and making it worse for no other reason than just to do it.

To each their own, I guess.

Well, I figured there was a certain difference between the two insults. At least you lifted that veil with that explanation. The more you know I guess.
